water in two cylinders

I just purchased a 1990 bayliner with a L drive 120 hp at an auction. Went to start it the other day and it turned over very nicely but did not catch, then tried again and it didn't want to turn over, tried everything, Prior to doing this I did a compression test and leek down and everything was great. I had the hose hooked up and the water was flowing freely out the exhaust pipe, after removing the plugs and cranking it over again, the #3 & #4 cylinders shot out water , that's what was holding back the engine from turning over. Q: where do you think the water came in from. Nick

I'm guessing head gasket. It could have already been blown or too much pressure from the hose blew it. I'd be interested to see what the veterans have to say though.

Hose pressure won't blow a head gasket, but hopefully that is what failed. They're easy to replace IF you can get at it. If that's not it, it's probably an exhaust cover gasket.
