Just to follow up. I changed the oil 5 times before it was completely clear. I used an inexpensive 10w30 oil and after the second replacement filter i just kept draining the filter and reusing it. I would run it for about 10 minutes each time and let is sit for about 30 minutes before removing the oil. After the fifth oil change everything looked clear so i took the boat our for about an hour and ran it at a pretty steady 3500 rpm. When i got home with it i checked the oil and it is still clear as can be. impossible to see it on the dip stick. The only way i know its there is by running my finger along it.
I will run it on the river one more time for about an hour and if all is well i change the oil to the recommended quick silver oil and chalk this up to an anomaly.
Is anyone familiar with Bass Pro Shops 25w40 marine oil.? It is less than half the price.
Im sure that will be fine . If you are looking to save a few bucks on oil use Rotella T4 15w40 Conventional. Its fine for marine use and is about as inexpensive as they come

A few questions about oil. After this whole mess, i changed the oil 5 times. The oil is clear now and i have 10w30 SYNTHENTIC oil in there. I am aware that this is "not recommended" however I plan to do one last oil change. I just want to be sure i have all of the milkshake out of my oil. Does anyone see this as being a problem with the synthetic oil since mercury doesnt recommend it in my engine. It will be in there for likely less than 90 minutes operating time.
As far as the replacement oil goes. Am i ok with the rotella T4 15W40? My engine has catylists on it and calls for conventional 20,30 or 40 oil OR quicksilver 25w40.
Thoughts?

Volvo Penta recommended syn 10/40 in the same GM marine engines that Merc used so I’d think it should be fine

Pretty sure the water entered his engine from the bottom up. 12-14" of water in the bilge is a lot of water.
