hi guys,i was wondering if someone could help me out with my problem.ive just rebuilt a 1974 115hp evinrude 2stroke 4 cylinder.and resprayed it.i took it out for breaking in and got towed back.pulled it apart and found that water had got into cyl #1.(very dry) it seized stretched the rod bolts and flattened the needle bearing on the crank end as well. it damaged the journal on the crankshaft.because of the rod coming up further it was flattening the ground electrode on to the centre electrode on the champion plug.on further examination,it showed of gluggy oil/water tan colour on the top of the crankshaft (rusty as well). the top end bearing was also rusty and took water too.the rest is good.there are 4 bearing plate retainer bolts in the bottom end.these bolts have special sealing qualities.a little rubber seal at the base of the bolt.as well there are several bolts around that hold the lower end bearing cap on.there was a couple of these bolts that were partly threaded on rebuilding.should i have replaced the sealing bolts with new ones? and should the damaged threads been helicoiled?(new threads). top and bottom seals and all new gaskets were replaced throughout motor and were all good on re-examination.block and heads are good on examination.is the water coming in from the bottom end through these old sealing bolts that werent replaced? and the couple of damaged threads on the bolts around the lower bearing cap?motor was running in well until i opened it up a little. please help.
