Well, the crack was right in the upper 1/3 of the vee just inside of where the #3 cylinder runs. I cleaned the heck out of it with acetone many many times before applying the marine tex. I felt OK giving it a shot because there is the POSSIBILITY it will work.
I worked assembling and flushing it a good part of today, now it's done and I have run the motor for a few minutes to adjust the valves that I pulled the pushrods from.
I will give it a dunk tomorrow, my fingers, toes, and maybe eyes, are crossed.

Yup, there's a possibility it will work. Did you pressure check it again? I might not do more than about 10 psi though

Yes, I did pressurize it, but by the time I got done it was too late to go to the lake. It's 90 minutes each way and I'm back to work tomorrow.
I had a brain cramp when setting my timing and wasted some time before I called my go-to-guy for a good way to confirm #1 TDC. If I had to make a living turning a wrench I'd starve.
I have run it 4 times to full heat, but I can't load it or run it over 3000 r's on the muffs. That's where the problem was manifesting itself.
I'll run it either Thursday or Sunday.
I'll come back with a report.

Yeah. Running it unloaded (on muffs etc) doesn't tell you much.

The only real test is on the water turning a prop!

Intake gaskets in automotive usage are compromised by the different types of manifolds used . There are plastic , plastic with aluminum and all aluminum . These manifolds are contacting and expanding at a much different rate than an all cast iron marine intake manifold bolted to an all cast iron engine , where everything expands and contracts at the same rate and rarely will give an intake gasket failure . Where as an automotive runs at extreme ambient temps with the iron and aluminum expanding and contracting at different rates sometimes leads to a gasket failure

Um, thanks. The intake & gaskets were good. I replaced & torqued the gaskets when servicing the water jacket. I expect it will last til the next time the intake needs to be off. But I'll keep an eye on everything.
