WATER GOT INSIDE THE MOTOR???

hello, could some one help!!! i took my boat out to the lake last weekend, park one spot to swim for couple hours later, when we leave my motor won't start....then i pop the cover open, i saw water inside, not all the way to the motor, so i raised the motor up and jump start it, it start right away....so is this normal to see water inside the motor....it was running good before and i never really look if the water was there or not....i took my boat out today, got the same problem...can't start the motor when it drop in the water....what do i need to do? could some one able to tell me where to order the lower unit seal kit for my motor.....(856X9E engine model number FORCE 1989 85 H.P. "E" MODELS). is it easy to do? any instructions would appreciated.:'(

check the tighness of the head gasket, the exhaust gaskets on the side and also the thermostat cover screws. If one or more of these screws get loose they will spray water inside the cowling and then all the electrical stuff gets wet and it wont re start.

Be sure to also check the condition of the rubber booty that is used to direct exhaust/water out the pee holes on the back of the motor. The booty is about an inch and a half in diameter and is located about 8 inches or so beneath the powerhead down the inside of the motor leg. It may have come loose or the rubber may have become brittle and torn. A tale tell sign that it maybe the booty is the water that exits out the pee holes at the back of the motor isn't coming out under force but sorta dribbles. At idle the water should be coming out of the pee holes as a spray from the force of the exhaust gas. If the booty leaks the exhaust gases that normally exit the pee holes will either get drawn into the engines intake or exit wherever their a exit to the outside and the water either fills the motor leg and or leaks out wherever else it can.

On my force motor i was told the water exits from the bottom just above the prop i do have 2 pee holes however water only dribbles out of them im told thats normal is that correct?

so, my real concern is....is the water suppose to be inside the motor at all? not all the way to the top of the motor, you know what i mean...little or some or not at all.....thanks guys.

There should be no water inside the motor cowling. Water goes from the water pump through the powerhead(inside it not outside it) then through the Thermostat and back down the motor leg. If you remove the cowling you should not see a single drop of water inside the motor.
