Hey Guys,

My mechanic recently replaced the impeller in my newly aquired 89 Evinrude 25HP. The motor had been sitting for a year. This motor has had extensive salt water usage.
After the impeller change the water flowed perfectly. The motor runs great. We took it out to the lake for the first time last week. The fun lasted for about 15 minutes before the motor reved up, lost water and stopped pumping water. I believe that we spun the prop. The water wasn't following anymore so we shut the motor down and paddled in.

I want to get the water flowing so I can make a paint line on the prop and hub to make sure that I do have a spun prop issue and not something worse. I dropped the leg and inspected everything. The impeller and housing all look good. I blew air up the water line and you can feel it coming out of the tell tale. The copper water line in the leg does not seem to plug in very well at the top of the motor, but don't forget that this motor did pump water! The motor shifts into gear and the prop spins without any issue, so the impeller must be spinningw

Any thoughts?? I'm feeling defeated here.... :(

What's wrong with your original thread? You haven't said anything different or provided anything new, so why the new thread?

Have you checked the thermostat?

Have you checked the thermostat?

I haven't checked the thermostat. If I can feel the airflow through the water line, could the thermostat still be the issue? I would figure that If I can feel the air flow than the water should flow too??

Thanks

If you can feel air out of the tell-tale, it is before the thermostat. The water pump can be working great, the tell-tale stream strong, and the engine can still overheat if the thermostat is stuck closed.
