I don't know what year the motor is but it is an older model, guessing pre 1987 and the model # is E15RLCTR. When running, a water squirts out of a black plastic fitting on the underside/back of the unit, but it doesn't seem like it is enough volume. I'm new to this so I don't have a clue if this is where the water flow indicator is and if this is a proper volume of water to show everything is working okay. I would really appreciate any input. Thanks in advance.

Your motor is a 1983 model.

The water flow indicator, tell-tale, pee hole, etc, should be located on the right side, at the rear and bottom of the motor cover. It should squirt out a steady stream of water at idle, and increase in force as rpm's increase. If water flow seems on the low side, you probably need a new impeller in the waterpump. The impeller is a rubber paddlewheel that spins and pushes water through the engine to provide cooling. Cost is about $10 plus labor to install and test. Less than an hour labor total.

The indicator on these particular motors is also bad about stopping up from silt, sand, etc. If it stops flowing, try first to clean it out by running a short wire [or something else that fits] up the indicator hole and wiggling it back and forth.
