Water coming out of midsection??

Hi all,

I have a 1985 Johnson J60TLCOD. The last time out the tell tale stream was spitting at idle, but strong under load. Today I put the ear muffs on and water was barely coming out of the tell tale at idle, but was coming out above the gear case bolts, near the front anode. I found two weep holes under a midsection cover (water inlets?) and placed my fingers over them. Water then came out up near the bottom of the power head in another weep hole and the tube where the shaft goes into the power head.

first off, is this normal? If not, where do I need to look to repair.

Thanks for a great forum!

Sounds like the grommet that connects the sections of copper tubing which come from the impeller and run up to the power head may be giving you the problem. You need to drop the lower unit and peek up inside. There is also a grommet on the impeller housing itself that may be bad or the tubing has come out of it somehow. Keep an eye on the temp of the motor if you are still runing it.
