Washington State Dems get their greedy little hands slapped.

Immediately after the last state election, the Democratic legislature hiked, by a hefty amount, the sin taxes to pay for their new pet programs.<br /><br />I am not sure how much a pack of cigs went up but the old half gallon of generic vodka went up from 16.5$ to 20.5$'s. The last I checked you could buy that same bottle in California for 7.95$.(you can buy it across the border, in Oregon for 13.15$). Even the pre-hike price of 16.5$ shows the greed of our state government.<br /><br />Well the good news is that it seems that the Democrats new spending programs, that would be paid for by the increased sin taxes violate a voter mandated spending initiative that was passed a number of years ago.<br /><br />A Washington State Superior Court just invalidated the sin tax increase due to it's conflict with that initiative.

I just love it too much when ANY tax and spend prog. falls apart I dont care who sponsors it, I guess I would like to go back to old times where things were handled on the local level, and big govt big spend and beauracratic mismanagement started wasting our tax dollars. I have a hard time believing that Govt. Washington or state can manage things better from 1000s of miles away, when they have never even seen the problems.<br />Yea theeir were problems with the old system, but the system needed modifications not replaceing.

Might not be able to do that Haut. The local Dems want to put a hefty tax increase on my cell phone. Might have to turn it in.<br /><br />But you are right. The Dems are spending so much of the current and new revenues on social programs they don't have enough to fullfill their traditional obligations like fixing the roads.<br /><br />Hmmm, let's see. They built the roads, the bridges, the libraries, the sewers when the sales tax was 3% and the population was less than a million. Now they have 6 times the people paying taxes at 6 times the rate( including ppty taxes) and they can no longer provide basic services like filling the potholes.<br /><br />You Dems make me want to ***it!

Define ***it...<br />I've wracked my brain & cannot find a deletable 5 letter word ending in it.....<br />Because all of the people live in King, Pierce , Snohomish (where the most taxes are generated & paid) you whine about your taxes....<br />Clark co. is King co's *****...So just pay up...<br />Go to Portland & buy your cigs & booze if need be....<br />Then you would not only not have to pay income tax, you wont pay sales tax either!<br />Talk about workin' the system....<br />Don't get me started about how you southerners can't comprehend Medicare Part D, either....<br />Rossi lost, deal with it! & will again...JK
