1988 Mercury black max, warning sounds constant but will go off after running awhile wide open. Oil levels are full and sensor in reservoir good. Sometimes doesnt happen, but mostly does. Also engine doesnt want to accelerate on all 6 cylinders, just keep trying and eventually all 6 kick in. Dont know if the two are related?

Welcome to iboats.

Definately could be. To know the motor is running, there's input from one of the coil feeds to the warning module. If that's the cylinder that's misfiring, then you'll get the alarm. But check that oil completely fills the tank on the motor. No air whatsoever. Until the alarm situation is resolved, run the motor on 50:1. There may actually be a problem with the oil pumping system.

My 87 Black Max 150 did the same thing, it turned out to be the stator.
