Fellow boaters, (Pictures of the boat are on down a little further in this thread)
I'm posting this in hopes of helping someone make a better decision with less research than it took me.
I purchased a War Eagle 2072 in 2010 and have really enjoyed it. It is a fairly well finished out boat and I feel the quality is good.
There are definitely pros and cons to everything and this isn't the perfect boat, however I didn't buy it thinking it was going to be the perfect boat.
There are better all fishing boats and better all hunting boats but you will be hard pressed to find a better boat that can easily do both.
I actually visited the plant where they are made in Montecello, AR and it seemed to me that everyone there does a pretty good job. One of the plant employees took me through all the production steps and I was pretty impressed.
However, there isn't really much out there in the way of "how the boat performs" from either websites or the manufacturer. It seems a shame that War Eagle doesn't have a better website with reviews of their boats.
Again, my boat is a 2072. It is 20 feet long and 72 inches at its widest point on the bottom. The sides are deep at about 21 inches. I have 3 small children ages 5 years, 3.5 years, and 10 months. It really gives me peace of mind that they can't easily fall over just with a slight lean over. It is extremely stable. The ride is very good in smooth water and it rides like a typical metal boat in real rough water but it is smoother in rough water than I had expected it to be.
I purchased mine with a livewell in front of the side console and it is a very nice size (I think about 30 quarts roughly). It is aerated. Standard instrument panel. Underbow storage of approximately 36 wide 16 high 16 deep. I got the split bench seat where the drivers seat is separated from the other bench. The bench is about 72 inches wide and 4 big grown men can sit comfortably across the seat. I had 3 seat pedestals on the bow, 2 in the floor and 3 on the back deck added. It has a 40 gallon gas tank which I thought was rediculous at first but I left it in and am glad I did.
I purchased mine without a trolling motor and added that later myself. I bought a Minn Kota Terrova with ipilot and it is absolutely awesome. It has a 60 inch shaft and is 24 volt and it will really move this boat with 80 pounds of thrust. With two big umbrella rigs it will run about 3 mph and that is a bunch of drag. Without the umbrella rigs it will run about 5-6 mph. You could run all day for sure if just using the trolling motor periodically. I haven't tried trolling all day long with umbrella rigs yet but I have trolled for about 4 hours with probably 30% battery drain.
I added an onboard Minn Kota 3 bank battery charger and it comes in very handy.
I'm running an Evinrude 115 ETEC and it will run the boat 45mph fully loaded with 3 batteries, 40 gallons of fuel, and 3 grown men. Without any gear at all and one man 3 batteries it will do 50 mph. Surprisingly, I really couldn't find this type of information anywhere.
The ETEC has a ton of torque and it really planes out fast too. The 115 and the 2072 are a very good match. I think a 150 on this boat would be overkill.
One of the questions I had about the boat was how much does the boat draft? No one really knows. Well I do now. Fully loaded with fuel, batteries, 3 men, and the ETEC 115 it will draft about 8-10 inches of water.....seriously. I couldn't believe it. I figured it would be much more. The limitation for duck hunting with this boat would be the ETEC fin hitting something before the bottom of the boat did.
I'll try to post more about this boat later. Hope this has helped someone.
