Wally World Tires??

Any opinions on tires from above? I need to get a couple of inexpensive 13" commuter tires for my son's '87 Sunbird. I don't see any point in going premium, they'll hardly get heated up for the trips that car will take.

Not sure about the tires but I would be carefull having their morons work on a vehicle.<br /><br />I use to have an old '77 Lincoln Mark V (I paid $500 for it) and I bought 4 tires from a friend (his car was in an accident but the tires were almost new). I needed to get the tires mounted right away so I could put my old tires back on my friends car before it fell of the jack stands (which it did anyway) and the only place open was Wallmart. It took them over an hour to simply swap the tires on the rims and put the new tires on my car. I didn't even get to the end of the parking lot before I heard a loud bang and the rear left corner of my car dropped and I heard something rubbing.<br /><br />I immediatly stopped and when I got out I found the shock sticking out of the fender (on top of the tire) with the break line sitting next to it. Apparently when they set the car down off the hoist they somehow folded my shock in half (I have pictures of it somewhere if anyone wants to see it). When I started to pull away the shock mount broke and the shock hooked the break line and ripped it out.<br /><br />Walmart refused to pay for it. My wife then got very upset went into the store and started screaming at the manager. (I'm sure the entire store heard her) They thretened to call the police on her and have her removed from the store.<br /><br />After about 10 minutes of arguing the manager agreed to call his district manager the next day and ask him about it. My wife was going to be home all day except between noon and 1. We told the manager this and he agreed not to call during that time. <br /><br />Guess what time he called... 12:10... When my wife wasn't home.<br /><br />They finaly agreed to refund the money we spent getting the tires mounted which was still about $30 less then what I spend for the shocks and break lines (not including my labor for the repairs)

I have purchased my last few sets of tires from WW. You get exactly the quality you pay for and I have never been in there more than 45 minutes. I try to go on weekday mornings. I have been pretty pleased and never had a problem. I guess it depends on the store. I think Boomyal is right though - they don't hire the best mechanics for the tire shop.

Says a lot for a company that will refund money on a $500, 30 year old rust bucket with siezed shocks and an abusive unreasonable customer.

I bought some tires for my youngest son's car, after seeing the type I wanted for his type of driving in the display area. The tires I wanted to get for him were made in the U.S.A. <br /><br />The tires that were wheeled into the shop area for his car didn't look the same, so I took a look at them. Guess what, they were made in CHINA. I imediately complained about the tires as they were ready to install them. I was told by the salesman that they were the size I requested, so what's the problem. I told him I was buying American made tires, not some "Commie" made import's. ...My exact words...<br /><br />I told them I am canceling the purchase and that I wanted the original sales form back, as well as the copies with my credit card number and signature on.<br /><br />The next day I got American made tires on my son's car and slept real good that night.<br /><br />This wasn't a "Wally World" store, but it was a large chain store, well known here on the left coast. <br />I was so mad, I didn't even ask if they actually had the tires in stock that I had orginally requested and signed for.<br /><br /> ...Bob in Calif... <br /><br />Rolling safely and happily on American made tires.

Skinny, I am with you here! It takes all kinds. <br /><br />Bob, glad you got made in USA tires ... but you should have said in your first sentence that your experience was NOT with Wal Mart. If you typed that story in a newspaper, and I worked for Wal Mart, I would have already had your lawyer in court & a huge CORRECTION printed on the front page. Not cool man. If you want to bash Wal Mart, do it in one of the several threads dedicated to it. You wrote about another, unnamed, retailer but limplied that it was Wal Mart. That's wrong. <br />Boomyal, Douglas brand tires at Wal Mart are just fine. Then tend to have lower treadwear ratings than the other brands Wal Mart sells, but they are a good inexpensive tire. I wouldn't hesitate for one second to install 4 on any vehicle I own.

I tend to buy my tires from Wally world or a local mom & pop. If the m&p can be within $5 a piece they get my business. I have never had a problem with any tire from walmart. The service is usually very slow but overall I am ok with it.<br /><br />I do have to ask- What kind of Firebird has 13" tires? I can see a Sunbird but a Firebird?

I just had a second set of Douglas touring tires installed on my wife's van. They ride good and W. M. stands behind the treadwear warranty. I got more than 30% off because they lasted only 50K.

I have used the Douglas brand WW tire in the past, its a great tire for the money. In a previous job, I used my car for point to point service calls. I actually got more than the rated mileage out of the WW tires.

I stopped by WW yesterday to check the prices. If you add up everything, including the road hazard warranty, WW is about 20% less expensive than the biggie tire dealer in town. The question is, is 20% worth it between a WW Douglas tire(?) and a Kelly tire?

I had my oil changed once at WW. you guessed it, they stripped the drain plug so they stuck it in with some kind of silicone and sent me on my way. next morning there's oil all over the driveway..wont go there again...........

I bought a tire from WW and they put it on backwards after I told three different employees that it was a unidirectional tire and it had to go on the drivers side of the car. So I go back a week later to replace the other 3 tires and they mounted all of them like they should go on the right side of the car. They had to fix that one too even though I told 2 employees this time. And the one other time I went and got some BFG all terains on my blazer and I told them I wanted the tires back since I was borrowing them from my dad I had to give them back (they were like new only different brands) They threw them all in the tire trailer. I made them go and get them back out. All in all its hard to beat the price but be prepared to check over all the work that was done....preferably before you pull out of the parking lot. And I would recommend staying in the waiting room and keeping an eye on them.

I do that everywhere I have a vehicle serviced. Good idea even at a dealership!<br /><br /><br />

20% difference on 13 inch tires, yeah, I'd say it was worth it. I love Kelly, by the way. Is that WM tire a Douglas? If it is, they are definately the better buy, in my opinion.

I've bought tires at Sam's club,Wally world and Kmart. Never had a problem.

Sams Club and Costco have always done a good job for me. The only complaint I.ve ever had is nobody teaches these guys the proper way to balance a tire. Weights should never be mounted in more than one location per side of your wheel. Let alone the guys who try to balance a tire with a few pounds of mud caked to the inside of the wheel.

I've bought tires at both Sam's and WalMart and had no problems with the tires at all. That does include Douglas tires too. Don't think you can beat their prices. You just have to watch them to make sure they put them on right and be sure you check all of the lug nuts once they are finished. There are idiots everywhere.
