We decided to barbeque today, so late yesterday I checked the charcoal supply...and there was none!

So bright and early this morning, off to Wal mart. It was great, hardly anyone in the store. I go to the garden section and right inside the door is a pallet of Kingsford charcoal with a big price sign of $7.48. We don't grill much, so OK, looks good to me. I throw it in my cart.

Then on the way to the checkout inside the store, I pass a big display with two packs of the same stuff bundled together with blue plastic, marked $7.50. I figure that can't be right, it must be Wal Mart's old trick of putting up a two sided display and then only showing the price of the lower item.

So I throw one of them in my cart, and find a price scanner. Yup, turns out that's right! 16.6 lbs. for $7.48, or 33.2 lbs. for $7.50!

Ya gotta keep alert when you're shopping in Wal Mart!

The Wal-Marts around here have downsized their selections so bad, it's not even funny. Too much foreign stuff anymore. I bet old Sam is rolling over about now !!!!! We don't shop there if we can help it.

There is a local slaughter house here that opened up a meat store. IMO, it looks to me like they are kicking Wal-Marts a** in meat sales !!!! PLUS, it's better meat. Locally raised.

I have been in the 6 Wal-Marts that are within 10 miles of my house, and have NEVER seen this so-called "trick" before. If yours really does that, it must be a crappy store manager. Or you aren't seeing both sides of the display.

The Wal Mart I mostly go in, only when I have to, does have poor management. The auto dept. tried to rip me off on road hazard warranties once and I filed a complaint with the state AG. Before doing that, I tried to talk to the manager, who was never available when I called, left messages, he never returned my calls.

I've experienced that type of display thing many times. Could just be the quality of the help, but I doubt it.

It's kinda sad to see so many with these issues at Wally World. WalMart is what it is, My local WalMart is among the companies leaders in Ammo sales and they have a great guy running the section as well. Yes I have had issues like anyone else I suppose but for the most part its one of the few stores I go to regularly for what I need. I don't go there to have them work on my truck or any of my cars because I don't trust the workmanship of the employees. I think the single biggest irritation in WalMart isn't the store its that patrons believe its a place where they don't have to be responsible for their offspring, I wish I could have a foam bat to carry around and blast the little heathens for doing stupid stuff while mom or dad aren't looking because they are on the other side of the freaking store! I try to go first thing in the morning so that I can get in and out as quickly as possible since they have 400 checkout lanes and 2 cashiers. I used to go late at night but I guess its the new Waffle House for drunks

it because walmart is the devil. their product are made in china and they ruin small business.

that being said i think it a bunch of b.s. who's products aren't made in china? they make a small company with 10 employees and no benefits go under but hire 300 with benefits.

And this, ladies and gentlemen, is the reason that the manufacturing industry in the US has been in a nose dive for the last twenty years.

I DO care where the product is made, and there are plenty of US made products available. I will buy american made whenever possible. Even if it costs a little more.

LippCJ7-

Funny but too true. I do have to say that of the 3 or 4 "local" Wal Marts I have available, the service quality definitely varies store to store.

I didn't mean for this to become a Wal Mart bashing thread, but thought the general experience was kind of ironic. And to tip you all off on a charcoal sale you almost have to look for. I wonder why they just didn't say "1/2 price charcoal sale"? :D

This is really fascinating. Wal-Mart regular price is 7.48. Wal-mart makes a special buy on a trainload of the product and puts them in their stores, special seasonal display at 2 fer 7.50, and doesn't bother to tear down the standard display.

And for this half price special, Wal-Mart is demon possessed.

Go figure. You guys are a bunch of whiners.

Mrs. DJ and I went to Wal Mart, late last night. We were bored and decided we wanted a few things for our, soon to be born, grandbaby.

We thought it might be less crowded-WRONG!

Someone had definetely opened up the cages and let the wildlife out. Whew and YIKES!

We also see a major difference in Wal Mart stores, mostly in service and cleanliness, depending on location.

I wouldn't go to Walmart if the charcoal is free. Their 'low prices' come at far too great a cost to North Americans, wages, jobs, offshoring, etc for me to ever darken their doorstep.
I'll spend more bucks and buy from a local smaller guy.:)
Good luck to you tho'.;)
All Good

Wal Mart did not hurt small business, the CONSUMERS did.

We American's are all about "choice". We were given one and we chose.

The staff at sporting goods at a local wallyworld is absolutely clueless about most of the products they sell there. I frequently have heard them give bad advice to people about fishing and hunting products they know nothing about and have obviously never used.

That seems to be a growing trend, no matter where you are.
