Hello everyone,
I saw lots of info here re replacing a vro pump with old style pump but need definate answers.
I have a 1985 evinrude 70 hp with vro , my pump is bad and I want to go to fuel pump only to save $ (I will pre mix gas/oil)
Does anyone know what fuel pump (#) will work with this engine, I know I will need a pulse inlet but not quite certain about the rest. Any info on the parts needed and how to will be greatly appreciated.(any pics will be a plus)
Thanks......

Re: vro pump replacement

On my 1988 60hp Johnson, I used the fuel pump from a 1978 70hp johnson, pn0385784. It worked fine, has been on there for 4 years now. You have to remove the pulse limiter in your current pulse line and replace it with a simple hose barb. I just wrapped the fuel pump in foam and layed it in the bottom of the cowling, under the carbs. A bracket to mount it on would be nice, but I didn't have the time then to fab one up, and kinda like it not being in the way on the side of the motor. I seen one that mounted on the old VRO bracket, so that is a possibility too.
