VPDP meets rocks...

Yesterday when we launched, I thought the ramp we deep enough and when I put the boat in reverse, clunk rocks, clunk, clunk, more rocks... bummmmmer! Took a chunk off my skeg, and my perfect F7 duo-prop set aren't so perfect any longer. Prop shop is two weeks out, and I started looking for a spare set, and I'm looking at $900-1500 bones... I guess I've been use to an outboard motor and should have been trimmed up. I was worried about the stress on the drive, and am not use to the drive height in relation to the trim gauge.

I'd like to have the drive inspected, and was thinking about dropping the lower unit so the skeg could be repaired, and inspected at the same time. Looks as if I need a special tool to remove the forward prop? Can I make this tool? Should I take the entire boat to get inspected, or will the lower unit be sufficient? The boat ran okay until cavitation from from dings at WOT, so I don't suspect any major damage, I'm just looking for advice is all... Rather not take the whole boat in... Is the lower unit as easy to remove as it looks?

Yes, you can make the tool. I made one this winter from a piece of black pipe. Took about $2 worth of pipe, five minutes with an angle grinder, and a few more minutes with a dremel to slightly enlarge the ID of the pipe. Worked like a charm.
