Hope this is the right place to ask this question:
Bought a 1997 FourWinns last year with 4.3VP SX stern drive. Unfortunately there is no tag on the drive. I’m trying to ID the exact model of SX & gear ratio. The faded sticker on the valve cover has these numbers:
Model no 3868413
Ser no T00373250
Model number 3868389
Ser no 700611771
Model Number 432BPLK(D)
Serial Number T01300866
I think the second model/serial numbers are outdrive and the last one is engine.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

It's gonna depend on your horsepower. I would just count the revolutions when turning the engine.
From Google...
"Later model drives in the SX family will vary some:
4 cylinder = 2.18:1 maybe the 1.97:1 in a small boat.
6 cylinder = 1.97:1 and maybe the 1.88:1, 1.79:1
8 cylinder = 1.43:1, 1.51:1, 1.60:1, 1.66:1
(the DP S for example can be 1.68:1,1.78:1,1.95:1 or 2.30:1)"

That’s a great and simple idea! Why didn’t o think of that?! Thanks. It’s a 4.3 carb engine, so I believe that might be the 190HP version. Somewhere someone must have a chart showing serial number to model conversion though. It’s the last digit on that SX-? That I’d really like to know. Don’t know why they didn’t stamp them instead of using some flimsy label. Grrrrr

My 200hp V8 has a 1.60 ratio. You'll need a protractor to differential between 1.88 and 1.79. Actually, if there's enough room, an iPhone app would work.
