Hi all,

VP 3.0, outdrive SX-M.

Just serviced the outdrive, filling from the bottom up, with the vent screen unplugged. On the oil weeping out the vent screw I buttoned everything up, then went to check oil level on the dipstick and it's showing half full?

I thought when it hit the vent screw it was full?

Two questions then:
1) Can I run the outdrive with the oil half-full on the dipstick line? Will this cause any damage should this be right up to the full mark?
2) How can I top this up without taking out the bottom plug and allowing the new oil to drain out?

Thanks

you can drop oil down the dipstick hole.

the dipstick has a range on it that is acceptable.

Half full is where you want it. Anywhere between low and full is fine. The volume of fluid between low and full is surprisingly small.

Scott and Horigan,

Thanks for your useful advice.

I'll leave it where it is then, but for future ref knowing that topping up on the dipstick is possible.

Thanks
