The 91 octane is the recommend fuel for my motor. (AQ131D)

Up until about a month ago I could get 91 Non ethanol

Well that gone

I can get 87 Non ethanol
Or 91 ethanol

Which fuel run would you run?

Either one. Treat the fuel and go boating. If the fuel system has been neglected then be prepared to change fuel filters as all the crud that built up over time will be loosened by the ethanol and deposited in the filters. If the engine has detonation problems on 87 octane you have two choices. Retard the timing a degree or two or run 91-ethanol.

Re: VP fuel option help

Is the 91 Octane rating a RON (Research Octane Number) rating?
Octane calculated by RON has a higher scale (almost like comparing Fahrenheit to Celsius) compared to the standard U.S. octane scale which is calculated by dividing the sum of the RON octane and MON (Motor Octane Number) by 2.
If what you're seeing is a RON rating, chances are 87 Octane will work just fine with out any adjustments needed.

FWIW, Retarding timing would be bringing the timing closer to TDC or 0?, so lower than 6?...

Thank you for straightening me out on that. I was reading the RON.

87 Non ethanol should work just fine
