New to boating, fixed / fixing a plethora of issues with new to me boat. have a 18' glastron with 280 od and 302 merc eng.
now as far as i know the leg tilt system is only designed for trailering and what not. but is the fixed lock trim the only option?
- i've been looking for an alternative to diy or add a power trim cylinder setup to leg.
- there isn't much of a sweet spot for top end with only the 3 selections of trim. i either porpoise pretty bad and torque steer so bad you CANNOT take your hand off the wheel.
i was looking for a basic operating instruction manual but all i can source is a service manual for repairs, that don't answer a few of my questions.
-reverse is useless if the water is shallow and can't drop leg down to locked position. am i new or what is the mode of action here for shallow water circumstances?
i run the boat in freshwater lakes only in western Canada.
bought to use for run about and water skiing. new prop installed 4 blade 14x19
any generic advice for a newbie with a olddd sterndrive?

you don't have any trim options. sounds like it might not be the right fit for you. I have issues myself in shallow water. trim up halfway in forward at idle speed only. buy enough props and you learn where not to go.

Yeah, might just clean this unit up really nice and sell it for something a little newer and more features. i just really like the look of old boats brings me back to child hood with wood water skis

There is a kit available that adapts a Mercruiser drive transom plate to the Volvo transom plate hole pattern. You will have to google it.
You will have to acquire the comparable Mercruiser parts from the engine block back.
I cannot agree more on the classic lines of the older boats. The 1975 Campbell 24’ Daycruiser is a good example.

a Volvo AQ290 drive uses a slightly larger hole and has full Tilt-n-Trim
