This is the 4160. Holley Carb R75007-1
I had not heard about transfer slots, and now I am not sure what I need to do to verify them. Do you know what they should be set to? The videos I am seeing is around .020". Do both the primary and secondary get set the same?
Floats are not externally adjustable. But they were set when I had the bowls off. When I flipped the bowls upside down the floats had to be level with the bottom of the bowl.
Yes sir. I let the carb body sit in parts cleaner and then sprayed out all of the passages both directions, then used wire, then carb cleaner again.
That's how I'm setting the primary side. I think I'll close up the secondary side so it just idling from the primaries. I see a lot of V8 cars and trucks are setting the secondary transfer slots just like the primary side. I think that is my flooding problem. Thoughts?View attachment 383799
Instead of having to drill holes in the Throttle Plate, Holley, on a lot of 4 bbls, has an Adjustable Stop on the Secondaries
It appears that it was the metering block that had plugged air bleeds. A few 30 minute passes through the ultrasonic cleaner with 50/50 Simple Green and water, and blowing it out with the air compressor did the trick. It idles now and no smoke. What a pain this has been. Thank you to all you gentlemen for the help. From the pic it appears that the port side (cyls 1,3,6) are running very rich, could be the idle adjustment or clogged air bleeds on that side. If the carb is not totally cleaned out with proper float adjustment, good needle valve etc it should not continue to foul plugs like that.
