VP 3.0 stalling

I have a 1995 VP 3.0gl that just started choking & stalling out today. This happens only when in gear and I try to accelerate. It fires right back up and rev's just fine if in neutral but when i put it back in gear it starts sputtering and will die if i give it too much gas. Any ideas what the problem could be?

Pull the carb and clean it. Most likely the accelerator pump circuit is plugged
