Ahoy there,

I finally found the issue with the trim system on my SP/280 hybrid drive. Since getting it splashed and sorting all the problems out of the rig mostly fuel related. I finally delved into why trim wouldn't hold position.

I didn't have any leaks externally I took the fittings off the pump and rigged a air hose setup with a gauge on it to look for blowby. That all came back with good results which pointed to the valve portion.

In the pump there's a set of directional check valves which are a major pain to remove. Inside those there is a like a little spool with a spring that is used to lock the drives position. On the end of that little spool piece there is supposed to be a o-ring mine didn't have one in one side of it. The other side did have what was left of the o-ring. To get the check apart I was able to use my drill to grab the small end and lock the big end in my smooth jaw vise and spin it out. The little o-ring was a 1.5mm idx3.5mm id. The drive has been in trailer position since Monday and is still on the rubber bumper, normally it would've drifted down in 20 minutes.

Your trim cylinder seals will be next. They last about 20 years

Hey were doing great then they're 1990 model year. It just has to last until the end of this season. I think we're not going keep this one. It just didn't ride like we figured a 21' boat would and I really would like to be in a bit bigger of a boat.
