Volvo shifter doesn't want to come out of reverse??

I own a 93 Chap Sig24 with a 5.0 engine DP-C290 drive. It shifts NO PROBLEMS to forward and back, and into reverse, BUT going back to neutral from reverse "MOST" times is a real pain in the ..., or hand in this case. Sometimes if I'm in a bind, I have to shut down the engine to get it back to neutral. I've looked somewhat at the shifter, but nothing mechanical there I can see. Any suggestions on what I should be looking for or adjusting????<br />Thanks in advance!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

after insuring the cable is ok and not coming apart near the transom, check the shift shoe shim adjustment. most times hard shifting is a worn shoe, out of adjustment shoe or a worn casting ramp. to inspect the ramps will require removing the shift housing.

If you dont mind me chiming in on this one - my merecruiser is hard to shift into foward and reverse nothing with the gears just the shifter is hard. what do these parts look like and how and where to adjust or replace??? <br /><br />Thanks<br />COOL IT
