Volvo Pinta Solex question

I'm working on my 1986 Bayliner Capri AQ131/270. I'm rebuilding my Solex carburetor and was wondering what the metal piece between the 2 base gaskets is for? Anyone know?

Make sure you put it back , it is there to even out the air flow in the manifold.
