Volvo penta xdp outdrive removal.

Any trick to getting the shaft out? I took everything off and I can't get it to move or slide out. by the way these things suck. I shall never work on a penta again.

Well...You picked the worst drive in the world to own. That was Volvo Penta's big mistake. other Volvos are great.

Yes this is a bad product by VP, in their “gererosity” they offered an upgrade program where you could buy an SXA drive and transom mount for a discounted price of something like 9 grand or some such...
And:
You own ANY outdrive boat and don’t pull the drive at the end of the season to check for water in the bellows and this can happen.
You own an outboard and don’t drop the lower unit to service the impeller the same thing will happen, the driveshaft can corrode into the crankshaft
Want a boat? Don’t want to pay for new? Then buy a 3-5 year old boat, that is used but not used up.

I have a 33 year old outdrive boat used in salt water 20+ seasons full season it sits on a mooring. The drive has been pulled every year it’s been in the water. It just slides off...

PS the driveshaft bellows probably leaked water sat in the bellows and corroded the driveshaft splines into the coupler.

So if he ever gets it apart should he coat the splines with never seize upon reassembly? I know the answer is "you would never have to coat it if you pulled and serviced it each year". But not everyone is capable of that and thinking now more about it... I bet us that cold winters actually service their boats more than guys who have non freezing weather year round. I bet many a boat just keeps going until something fails ...where here in the north we are kinda forced to do things to our boats and we kinda have more time to do them seeing our boats are out of service for 5 months.

You always grease the splines when you remove the drive.
