Hi,

There's a thread (http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=240368) which talks about a leaking water pump. The reply stating it was fixed was

"I got it off. There were 3 allen head screws holding the pump to the harmonic balancer. Got a new seal for $3.00. -Beats $300 for a new pump."

I've just had to purchase a new pump as mine was suffering more problems than a leak but I'm wondering what the seal is that's been mentioned. The pump I bought was complete so had the impellor already installed - I simply bolted the pump onto the harmonic balancer with the 3 hex head screws.

So my questions are :
1) Is there any other seal apart from the one on the impellor housing?
2) I couldn't get much grip on the bolts due to their location and the 'hockey stick' shaped allen key I was using - do I need to get an adapter and a torque wrench as the Clymer workshop manual I'm using doesn't mention torque rates at all.
3) Based on 2, where can I get a decent Volvo Penta workshop manual?!

Kind Regards,

David.

Go to the Iboats home page, click on sterndrive parts under engine parts, click on volvo oem parts, click on gasoline engine manuals, click on 2001- present, scroll down and find the manual/s you need.

Sorry I can't speak for the pump replacement proceedure.

Good luck!!!

There is a seal on the back of the pump housing where the shaft goes through. It can be knocked out and a new one tapped in.
I dont remember having a problem removing the allen screws.

4 and 5 are the only seals in the pump. if the seal is bad, and water has leaked thru the bearing, the bearing is probably rough also. It's not replacable and you would need a new pump. Especially if in salt water.

25 to 29 ft. lbs. Per the OEM manual. The pump can be turned to uncover one bolt at a time.

There are several manual for your particular model, one for the engine mechanical, one for EFI Diagnostics and repairs, wiring, Electrical, and drive manuals. All can be ordered from your local VP dealer.
If you have the Volvo SN of your engine, I can get you the part numbers for the manuals and you may be able to call iboats and order them, in parts they only show the engine manual.
