I have a '94 four Winns with twin 302 / SX-M outdrives.

Last year I noticed a whining noise from the Port engine. It was very noticeable while cruising at low/idle speed.

I removed the drive and found water inside the bellow. The gimbal bearing was rusty and replaced. I also noticed water in the gear oil. Bellow was replaced.

I replaced the drive and still have the noise. My question is if this could be the u-joints, or should I look elsewhere. Could the water intrusion have been from water entering at the yoke? Should I replace the u-joints, replace the drive and check for more water intrusion, or dig deeper? Thanks

Another question? Is it easy enough to replace the u-joints, or is it recommended to replace the whole shaft / yoke assembly?

You will probably need to replace the yoke and the seal as well as the ujoints. Typically the yoke gets rusty and takes out the seal.

You would need to replace the crush sleeve in the bearing carrier and reset the rolling torque on the bearings.
Here is the procedures from the service manual.
