I'm back again looking for people's option, I want to change out the spark plugs on my 2002 volvo penta 5.0 GXI- B , the one that came out was a AC-Delco 41-984, I have read here that a AC- 41-993 or AC- 41-101 can be used. I have crossed reference the AC 41-101 with a NGK and came up with a NGK-ITR4A15 , woundering if this plug is good for my engine, as it is 1/2 the price .
Thanks in advance.

I did some research last summer when I changed mine on my 2004 5.7 Gi-D.

I had 41-983 which is a double platinum plug.
I replaced them with 41-993 which is iridium (last longer).
Boat ran well the whole summer.

I like Delco Marine plugs because they are quite corrosion resistant which is important. You want the longer reach Delco because with a 2002 you have Vortec cylinder heads. The older pre Vortec engines like mine take the shorter reach plugs.

Yep - these iridium and platinum are great in cars where you have a 120k change interval but makes less cost effective if you change them frequently.

Hi. You absolutely require the 993’s at a minimum for these mpi gxi engines. Normal plugs just don’t work well if at all.
The preferred would be the NGK 5599

Standard Copper AC Delco MR43LTS plugs work just fine in these Vortec Motors no matter if it's a Carb motor or MPI. They do come stock with the more expensive plug but the plugs will rust out well before they wear out. It's your $$ but the cheaper plugs do the job. Just check the GAP before you install them.

Hi there. Honestly. They just don’t run well at all with anything less than platinum. Even platinum don’t work too well. Iridium are only ones that run well on mine.
Added to the fact that the manual specs these plugs too. Not sure why anyone would go against the oem advice perhaps.
The vortec carb engines don’t mind normal plugs. But these sure do. No doubt.

I personally have in my craft a 2010 5.7 GXI-JF and since I changed the stock plugs that were 41-993 AC Delcos, The MR43LTS is all that its had and she runs like a top. When I worked at the Marina, I would use the stock plugs unless a customer balked at the cost and asked if there was a less expensive option. I have used them with out issue and never had to take a set back out for running issues on any model be it a Carb, Throttle Body Injection or MPI or if we're being more formal; GL/Gi/GXi.

If they work for you..that’s fair play. I found that even the platinum ac delco plugs didn’t work well for me. Noticeable difference in how she runs for sure. I’d also maybe add that stock plugs wouldn’t be what you have in yours. Stock would be considered as per the manual, being fussy perhaps. All the best

Vortec carb engines (TBV) one mine the cheap AC delcos work great.

You have a mild cam in your engine. Right ?

It’s an mpi I have. Had a cam fitted as part of a performance package new. No idea which though. But the manual definitely states to use 993 or 5599 plugs for sure.

Jumping in late here- Volvo Penta ‘99 GL, carbureted, I have NGK5599 plugs ready to install but there’s some conflicting info on GAP- I see .49 and .61 out there, who has a definitive answer on it? Thank you!
