Replace Volvo with "Ford" and Mercruiser with "Chevy". and watch the fur fly. :)
Mercruiser and Volvo are both great boat pushers. Volvo is slightly higher on thier parts. Mercruiser is in essence a Chevy motor anyhoo.

As in almost any two competitive products, there are advantages and disadvantages to either. This holds true in this case as well. Both Merc and Volvo have proven to be innovative and reliable and are by far the two leading stern drive units on the market. However, I just don't think Volvo can match Mercury's parts and service networking and for this reason I wouldn't own anything else. Yet, my brother in law swears by his Volvo.

Walt
