volvo penta gimble ring

1994 volvo penta 5.7 engine DP outdrive
Does anyone know if the gimble ring can be removed from the transom without removing engine???

I am pretty sure its a DP 290. I dont have very much info on the boat and have a book ordered to help with i.d.

I put it in the water and before I could even get it off the trailer the bielge pump was already on. I pulled right back out and found water coming out of the boat between the transom and gimble ring. I know there is a rubber seal back there and was wondering if I have to remove the engine to replace it. Any help is greatly appreciated

Ok, that drive doesn't have a gimbal ring. Are you referring to the part that bolts onto the transom? If so, that's the transom shield.

Between the transom sheild and the transom there is a rubber seal.
Can I replace it without pulling the motor

No, and that seal is probably not your problem. 99% of the time when they leak at that point, the transom is rotten. The nuts inside are no longer tight and sink into the rotten transom.
