Took my 1979 Glasply with the AQ140 and 280 out today… got on plane and then just fell on its face. Went to start it again and my carburetors had water pouring out of the top of them… just curious if this has ever happened to anybody before and how much damage I can expect to my internals. Background on this.. the part of the raw water system where the S hose connects to the top of my out drive was broken and I am not sure how long it was broken for. Replaced it this weekend before taking the boat out. Temp was fine before it died on this trip.

That is not good. Don't know what the issue is but that is a water pump, not a motor. Time to pull the motor, pickle it and start looking for the issue?

running without a cooling water supply would have toasted the engine

reconnecting the cooling water supply would have what you have now

time to pull the drive, then pull the motor and look for new motor

that’s what I thought. Pulled the drain plug and almost no oil just water out at first. Got a guy with an AQ130D for sale near me. Might look into that swap.

That engine must have broken the timing belt, otherwise it would have hydro
locked and not turned over.
2X with Scott on the carburetors.

Thanks for the advice on the twin carb idea! I’ll be sure to do that. Yeah for shits and giggles I pulled my spark plugs and cranked it and had water shooting a good 10 feet out of the holes. All I could do was laugh. Oh well.. back to bank fishing for chinook it is. Gonna try and get the motor in and boat ready for spring fishing.

Got my replacement motor. Going to go through it all before it goes in the boat. I’ll post some swap pics as I do it.

I didn't realize the aq 140 could be swapped for the 130, being different generations of motors. both have 2 carbs...
thanks for sharing your project, keep.us updated!

The replacement engine looks good from the outside. Those are tough engines and give a lot less trouble than the later models. I hope you got the PDS housing with it. Good luck.

The 140 is 125hp 1975-79
The 130 is 110hp 1975-77
Should be an easy swap.
If you drop to the 130 make sure you use the Volvo prop.
They just work better.
