Hi new to the forum and inboards. I have a 97 Volvo Penta 4.3GL enegine. I need to replace the engine water pump. I have a silly question, how do I refill the engine with water once I've refitted the pump and make sure I get all the air out. Hope this makes sense and someone can get me an asker.

Thanks

Which pump are we talking about. The engine circulation pump, or the raw/sea water pump. Do you have a raw water cooled system, or a heat exchanger with antifreeze in it?

If you don't have a heat exchanger, then no worry about refilling the system after either pump has been replaced. It will fill automatically.
DO NOT run engine without water going to the drive with muffs, or the boat is in the water.

Re: Volvo Penta 4.3GL Water Pump Refit Procedure

Hey Don, Thanks for taking the time to respond. Its really appreciated.
I was talking about the engine circulating pump (mounted on the front of the engine). When I posted the question I naturally assumed that the engine would have a split system ie raw water / heat exchanger and a seperate water/antifreeze circuit for the block. But as the engine doesn't appear to have a heat exchanger I guess we are talking about a single raw water system cooling both the exhust and block with raw water.

Im learning all the time.
