Volvo outdrive drain plug oring

1999 Volvo DPS. Where is the correct location for the oring on the drain plug behind the props? Should it be flush up against the very top, or in the grove just after the threads?

Any thoughts? Not sure if the oring on a 1999 Volvo DPS outdrive drain plug should go in the grove above the threads, or at the top, flush against the back of the head.
