I posted a thread a couple of weeks ago regarding lifter noise. Someone suggested an overabundance of oil would start the oil to froth and/or aerate and could cause such a noise. Well, I checked the oil and it was overfull (atleast a quart). The oil has NO viscosity. The boat was only used twice since the oil change.

Question: Could such frothing/aeration cause the loss of viscosity in the oil - or - could water from somewhere (?) cause the lack of viscosity? But then... wouldn't the water separate from the oil?

Try changing the oil and filter. Put in the proper amount of oil and run it and see what happens.
Water in the oil gets milky, and it does not separate back to normal.

It smells pretty much like normal used oil - perhaps a bit more of a burnt smell than normal. It's pretty dark in color - almost the color of black coffee, but not milky. It has no viscosity at all - almost like water.
