Hello all. I have a 84 volvo penta 4 cyl in my boat. There is a crack in the exhaust manifold leaking water out into the boat. Question is can water get into the engine with a cracked manifold? I checked the oil and found the milky white junk on the dip stick. First thought was head gasket but knowing the condition of the manifold I was thinking this could be the problem. Any info would be great.

Thank you

Re: volvo cooling

Yep it can if cracked internally. My guess is you have more problems that just a cracked manifold. Remove the old manifold, and then do a leakdown test to try and determine where the water is coming from. If everything checks out OK, then put on a new manifold and you are good to go.

Have a great day,

Rob.

Yup it can leak into the cylinders.Remove the manifold and check the exhaust ports for corrosion. If thats ok make sure you use NEW gasket and seal when you replace it.
New manifolds are $350 or so.J
