I've got an 1986 AQ225E/270 drive that won't idle under 1,000 RPM. I replaced the plugs and wires, cap and rotor and it's had a Pertronics ignition and coil for 10 years. This season I replaced the Rochester Quadrajet with a pro rebuilt carb and I can't get it to idle under 1K and the mixture screws don't make any difference from 1 turn out to 5 turns out. Even at 1000 RPM it stalls when you put it in gear. Last night I got it up to 4200 RPM at WOT and hit 42 MPH in a Bayliner Capri 19' open bow, but it just won't keep running at idle RPM! Total ignition timing at WOT is 33 BTDC and at 1000 RPM seems to run best at about 20 BTDC.
