Hello everyone and thanks in advance. I have a 1989 80HP Mercury ELPTO. I had a short on my main battery and it seems to have fried my voltage regulator. I have searched plenty and found pretty much nothing that looks like the part I fried. I would prefer to get an exact part replacement. Mercury marine gave me a part number ( 81527A2 )that is not even close and cost a fortune. So I am asking what this one is if anyone knows or how and where I would find an original OEM. Thanks again

Judging by the transistor on the back, that particular parts was superseded by a new sometime ago.
Guessing you are SOL on that particular part OEM unless you can find a used on on eBay or something similar

See what the crowleymarine web site recommends for your motor and then search that part number for aftermarket source. If you don't like that, you will need to really go DIY and find something from a motorcycle or generic.

Yup, superseded by this type of rec/reg. Probably run much cooler and more efficient to upgrade to anyway. Cut off its bullets and your spades, twist wires together, solder and heat shrink, it'll last another 30 yrs.

And don't pay Merc or CDI or whoever $200/$300/$400 for this type either, they're using the same manu as the $25 Amazon rec/reg linked above, re-branding it and waaaaay over charging you for it.

BTW.....The rec/regs two red wires(Sense and Vout) can be twisted together at the rec/reg(makes for a "local sense"). ALSO, after twisting the rec/regs two red wires together, always a SUPER GOOD idea put a 20/30A fuse between those two twisted together wires and your engines red wire (that goes to the battery)..........Just in case!!

So I wanted to at least use the old housing seeing as it bolts on correctly. So with the use of my trusty heat gun I was able to quickly gut it. I will bolt the new one into it and should be good to go. Thanks for the write up topgun3690 and thanks to everyone else 438354DD-E168-42D6-B912-DC51C3A8CC81.jpeg
