Voltage regulator dial

I have an older Rinker 17ft runabout with a 115hp Johnson outboard. I recently notice the volt regulator dia on my dash console is melted (fried) Any ideas as to what my have caused it? Bud

Ayuh,.... Welcome Aboard,.... Never heard of a voltage regulator dial,.... Muchless 1 in a boat....

Was it a voltmeter or amp-meter (ammeter) ?
Either way, something shorted out and it melted.
Check the wires running to it to see if they melted too.

How about showing us a picture of what you are calling a voltage regulator dial.

If it's a amp meter or combo then the older they get the more they corrode inside and out. Lots of power/watts going thru an amp meter so a little corrosion/resistance and you get a lot of heat.
When you change the meter out pay attention to the wire going to and from the meter. If the wire is hard or even off color replace the wire too, it's bad.

I have not seen an ammeter on a boat dash since the late 50's/early 60's. A voltmeter is almost as good, and a lot cheaper and easier to wire.
