Vinyl ester filler over epoxy and gelcoat questoin

Hi, two unrelated questions here for two different seadoos

First question is can I use vinyl ester filler over an epoxy fiberglass repair? I have a bunch of the 3M marine filler and I really like how it cures fast and I can sand it and throw another layer on in 20 minutes or so. Epoxy with microballons is a pain to sand, so I'd prefer to use the 3M filler if possible. Just need to know if its ok or not. From what I've heard, vinyl ester and epoxy should be ok, but it never hurts to double check.

Second question is about Duratec high gloss additive (on a different ski, made with poly resin). I did an extensive blister repair, and I have laid in new gelcoat in the areas I have ground out the old gelcoat. Problem is, the manufacturer supplied gelcoat is off in colour, probably because of sun fading of the old gelcoat. To make the ski look nice, it seems like I need to re spray the entire hull. Can I just scuff it up and spray the new gelcoat with the duratec over the seadoo? The main thing here is sanding. Will the duratec make it spray out like urethane, or will I still need to level the gelcoat on the ENTIRE ski (that would take years). I'm ok with a light wetsand and buff, but not with starting with 80 grit to level the entire thing.

Not sure about your first question.

For the second question, you should be able to sand (80 grit?) the rest of the hull and re-spray the entire thing. @Scott Danforth is the most active advocate I know on here for Duratec additive and spraying gel. Maybe he can chime in?

With the right gun, duratec 904 does make is spray like industrial paint vs like spraying manure with chunks

You still need to sand, cut and buff. But it is so much less post finishing than straight gel

80 grit is the "scuff" of choice

You will want to do 3 coats

One color or more?

its not ideal, however if you scuff the area with 24-40 grit to give the surface some tooth, you can get the VE to stick. its purely a mechanical bond at that point and no chemical adhesion.
