Ayuh,..... Welcome Aboard,....... In most states, you need the old registration from the previous owner,......
Otherwise, you've got a yard planter box,....

From the information I have gotten there is a hin stamped inside the hull someplace as well as the hin on the outside of the transom on the upper righthand side . Can anyone suggest where it may be?

I have no registration only a bill of sale. It seems to be a good boat and I hope to get alot of use out of it. Not as a planter or sand box.

I had this problem with my Jon boat it turned out not to have anything on it as it was made in 1970 before capacity plates were a requirement(1972)... Fortunately I had registration ...but would like to here if you figure out where it is as many boats have a riveted on number from my understanding...

I got a response back from alumacraft today. They said my boat is a 1956 but didn't give a location for a HIN . I'm not giving up on getting it on the lake yet.

If no go with your state. There is a 50/50 shot you can use Vermont as they will assign a transferable registration off of a bill of sale to out of state residents. Known as the Vermont loophole.. your state would need to accept such documents though

Well now
I have managed to get registration on my boat. Next step register the trailer. Then get into building the boat. I have replaced wood in transom but want to run this thing on the lake before I put money into it.

Unless the boat has been thrown off a cliff, it should run pretty much like it did in 1956.

I spent many a days on the water in grand dads.
These boats were a little tippy for my liking, but they lasted forever.
It should scoot right along with the 9.5, if it is running well.

I'm in Southern California. It took a few trips to DMV and I contacted alumacraft with a number stamped in a brace for the transom. They responded back and told me it was built in 1956. The dmv didn't implement the HIN until 1974 I believe. So thats why my boat had no numbers on it . That and the fact that the boat had been unused for a number of years. So the cf number was not in the computers at dmv either. End result DMV gave me a HIN I had to stamp on a tag and attach to the transom. And charged me a few bucks short of a hundred.

No cliff so far. Looking forward to first launch this week if all goes as planned . Probably going to take the 6 hp johnson and the 9.5 sportwin and give them both a spin around the lake . The Johnson is a long shaft and the 9.5 is a short shaft. Will be interesting .
