You can buy a Midland at Walmart for about 60 bucks. They're OK, but cheap. I like them, because I beat boat gear up and drop stuff. My current Midland replaced one that I dropped in the drink, at a boat launch. Having to shell out 60 dollars to fix one's own stupidity, doesn't hurt so bad, when there is not a lot of money involved!
I've had a Cobra MR-HH300 for years. Waterproof, rugged, weather and VHF with alert on the weather. In rough weather, it sits there, on and quiet till it beeps when a warning comes on.
