I had a great free burger at Applebee's last year. I didn't check the Snopes, but I think many of those discounts are date and location dependent.

Still great that so many places support the vets!

Looking forward to my burger!:D

Lowe's is 10% off every day.

I just show my VA medical card when asked which is not very often.

I always have my card with me. I'll have to remember to show it at more checkouts. I was surprised when a friend told me how many places offer discounts with it.

AA Auto parts gives me the military 10% off all the time. I have heard that store policies may differ with some stores only giving it with an active duty ID but the local store will give it on a retirement card.

I saw someone ahead of me at a checkout pull out a Retirement ID and/or his VA Card for a discount. I remember thinking about how many purchases I had made there with those cards tucked away in my wallet.

Re: Veteran's day/month offers

I think an UPDATE is needed.

I have been a full verizon customer with multiple phones since 2003 (earlier since 1993 via a retailer).

Today I made the call.

In the past I have always inquired about the discounts available to the vets and military. I was told only discounts applied to accessories.

Today I went out on a "mission" and here are my results......

Called Verizon and was told I did qualify for the 15% discount on my cell phone however, it was not going to take effect until today. I drove to my local verizon store who had little knowledge of the discount.....however, I pushed the buttons and left with my discount.

I called verizon again and asked about a discount for the monies I had spent as a result of the store employees not being informed and received an additional back discount of 6 months.

Now here is the interesting part verizon said since they were verizon they did not have to follow any "Act" that may be in place and they decided to disregard the "act" until Sep 2009.

Hmmmm I am not done yet ;)

UPDATE to the UPDATE yes the above "act" is somewhat clear and the cell companies are doing it under their own volition and it is not mandatory..... verified by sources I have with the FCC.

Bottom line...... it never hurts to ask.

Hey everyone, thought I'd add one more! GM is extending their GM Military Discount to military retirees for the month of November. If anyone is interested in learning more about how much you can save, you can visit the website EDIT for more info. Hope this helps, Happy Veterans Day!

Refer to your local dealer and mention the discount. There is NO NEED in signing up via a web site to obtain this discount.

This is the official GM PDF https://www.gmmilitarydiscount.com/GMVPP2/agency/programs/mpp/retiree.pdf

As a side not....... GM makes this offer a few times throughout the year and make a big deal out of it. It annoy's me that they would use the tactic that this is a brand new offer and will expire...... The GM people just need to stop the lies and support the military year round....... not when they feel they need to increase sales and jump on the bandwagon.

My local Ford dealer had a military discount of $500. Dunno if it was a Ford or a dealer thing.
