Greetings all

Could anyone please assist me in adjusting the throttle control on my 2002 Mercury 50 ELPTO. When I shift from neutral and into forward or reverse and vice versa, it is very stiff. Even when pushing the lever to full throttle, it is somewhat stiff. I have tried with the friction adjustment, no joy.

Cheers

Re: Very Sticky throttle

Sometimes the throttle cable is rigged in a such a way that there are too many tight turns, or one turn that's too tight, or a combination of both problems. I suggest, after the usual lubrication checks (make sure any exposed linkages are lubed and not corrosion bound), that you try tracing the cable's route and if necessary run it in a direct path to the motor. If it's still stiff then you'll need to investigate further, but try the above as it's a no cost option that may work. Good luck, let us know how you go, and welcome to iboats!

Re: Very Sticky throttle

Hi Triton II

Thanks for the prompt reply. I did check the routing of the cable, and it appears all okay. Im wondering if the problem is in the actual hand controller itself ??
Will have another look, and see again. Otherwise, its off to the mechanic.
Another question about manuals, the rapid share website requires an account ?? yes / no ??

Cheers

Before going off to the mechanic, disconnect the engine end of the cable and check the movement. If it is still stiff, disconnect the controller end and check for play. The cable may be bad after 9 years. This would be more likely than the controller being bad.
