Welcome aboard angelsfan! Free is the best kind of boat! We all will be glad to help you put, but a little more info on your boat would help out- length and width particularly. Plus, the brochures that are stickied it the top of this forum are cool to look through and may give you a clue as to your model. Again, welcome!

Whats your plans for the boat? Fishing etc.? I have never seen one like it as most that size around here are aluminum. I really doubt Starcraft built any boat that was unwanted or no good. Where you gonna take it out? Lake Elsinore? I use to swim there as a kid.

well the main purpose for the boat is fishing...my plans are to to probably just put some kind of bed liner stuff on the floor for easy cleaning as it will be a fish slaying machine lol.. two swivel seats and motor wise I'm not sure if i would be fine with just a trolling motor or maybe like a 7hp would do I'm assuming. i just want something simple as those v shaped aluminums get kind of scary for me and this one has a flat floor on the inside so it might be a bit more stable since I'm a bigger guy. i don't fish elsinore as action there isn't to good but i go to corona lake, irvine,

A 7 hp will push you along just fine and troll good. You might want to rethink the bedliner stuff unless you can get it in lighter colors. The black will be like sitting in a frying pan. What is that box toward the back of the boat? Looks like a live well?

Re: very first boat and its a starcraft

i have a definite ID for you: it's a 12' Starcraft Project. ;)

7hp will push it to about 12-15 mph, based on what i get with an 8hp on my 12' boat. fine for fishing, marginal for runs back to the dock on big lakes.

Cabela's sells bedliner in colors. i did my Lone star interior in the beige or sand color (for the reasons Rayzor mentioned) and am happy with it. about $80/gal.

welcome to the insanity............

thanx for the advice on the motor but definitely I'm putting in a light color in the inside and to be honest idk what that box is for looks like it has drain plugs but it goes right under the bench seat when i put one in so I'm not quite sure if its just storage or a live well.. ill take more pictures once this crazy wind goes away

its more like a SUPER PROJECT lol not to bad tho as it only has a small damaged piece of fiberglass on the bottom and inside looks pretty decent so just lil cosmetic things and i hope to find a cheap motor

My guess is live well. Brochure says live well under back seat, storage under the front.

I like this boat, I'd put a 10 or 15 horse on it. I'm curious to see how it works for you, I want the 14' version.

Re: very first boat and its a starcraft

once again, i think you're dead on there Don. Angels, since you haven't bought the motor yet, i'd look for something more in the 10-15hp range....what i was trying to say in previous post is that on the day a big storm blows in and you have to run for shore, you'll be glad you have a bit more hp. i definitely wish i had more power but i'm limited on my boat by transom rating.

Re: very first boat and its a starcraft

I agree a 10-15HP would be ideal. However, if you see a deal on a nice 4HP or larger Johnson/Evinrude/Mercury/Mariner/Yamaha I'd grab it. We run our 14' tinnie with just a 4HP Evinrude and it actually does pretty well. You can always trade up if you find a larger one later. Avoid any air cooled Gamefishers/Ted Williams/etc etc weird brands.

x2 on that. i've had several and they are crude nasty things that are poorly engineered, have little if any corrosion protection, and tend to want a 36:1 or worse yet 24:1 mix so they are smokey pigs. i GAVE them all away............ stick with an OMC/Merc/Jap brand/Mariner........if you look at a Force (formerly chrysler), check prices and availability for commonly needed parts before you buy. parts for my 5hp force single are more $ than equiv stuff for a 40hp OMC twin

Johnson or Evinrude 1955 on up. Parts are available and these beasts will run for many years. Get that bad boy on the water soon, I dying to see how it performs.
