Verado trim cylinder

Got my manual today, yeah, have another problem

One trim cylinder on SB motor has slight trim cylinder leak and it's on the bottom. While I might be missing an area, I'm passing my hand all over it and only comes up wet on the bottom. This may have been caused by a user but don't see how and I was watching

Getting ready to bring boat back in the fall after canvas work. I raised the port motor using switch on the motor. Raised it up, extended the support latch under the motor and pulsed the switch until it just touched the latch.

A canvas shop helper did the starboard in similar fashion as I watched. Then there was a loud pop. Raised it back up assumed the plastic latch broke because everything else is steal and cast aluminum. Found nothing

Pull boat out in spring and see small amount of oil on the floor.

Your right, I'll do that, but actually don't think anyone here can answer the question. Just tossed it out there just in case

Going to take the boat to a dealer maybe next week after rain stops for a while

Talking to dealer Tech he said most likely it was the seals. My thought there is the seals are only at the rod ends and neither is leaking on top, it's only on bottom.

This should be warranty even if the safety latch caused it to brake something, shouldn't be that flimsy

Understand crazy money. Right now my serial number doesn't even show up in places like mercruiser parts

Might try on The Hull Truth, that is outboard heaven.

Don't know what I heard pop but there is no way it should have put a strain on the trim system components.

The owners manual list this is where the support lever should be placed for transport. The latch will apply weight on the transom support which holds and supports the entire motor. The trim system slides up inside the steering tube

Looking thru the manual 8M0182077 I'll say it was coincidence from hearing the pop and later see a leak. There are only O-rings that keep 2600 psi fluid from leaking. Don't see how this will last long term, and in salt will be shorter

Still don't like the leak but at least now I don't see something busting open

Might be a 2600 psi but the working pressure is much less.

Even if the lift cylinder has only has an effective cross section of 1”, you still only need a working pressure less than 700 to 800 psi to raise the motor.

Low pressure, low speed operation…o-rings are more than sufficient.

I would lean more towards lax tolerancing / quality control if anything if it’s a production problem
