Good Afternoon,

I recently acquired a Scout 350 LXF outfitted with triple 300 Verados. The survey came out excellent and I have just completed a comprehensive service on all three engines. Prior to the purchase, the previous owner replaced the TVM wiring and sensor.

Yesterday, the Trip started, with a delivery captain at the helm. Everything was running perfectly until he reached Daytona. There, he experienced a complete loss of steering. Today, it started working again, however, both the joystick and autopilot are still inoperative. Additionally, the engines are having difficulty smoothly turning right and left, as demonstrated in the attached video.

I've done some research on the pump and actuator issues on this forum and on Facebook. However, I'm still holding out hope that we might be dealing with a different issue here, since the problem we are experiencing seems a bit dissimilar.

- Voltage seems ok
- Fluid seems ok

I appreciate your time and look forward to hearing your thoughts.

(please no comments about the ugly Decals)

When this boat lost steering, it should have set one or more codes that would display at the helm. Those codes might help determine if this problem is simple or complex.
But because of how complex these engines are, most likely you will need to have a Mercury dealer diagnose it.
Here is my advice to help you find the best Mercury dealer to give your money to. 1st look for a dealer that has a lot of experience with twin/triple Mercury outboards. 2nd ask about the technicians that they employ. There are 3 levels of technicians. 1, those with no to little factory training. 2, Mercury certified, these are techs that have completed a number of classes and were smart enough to pass a written/hands on test — this should be your bare minimum. 3, Mercury Master Certified, these are techs that have been Mercury certified for a number of years and have passed a rigorous closed book exam. I have worked with and attended school with a few of these people and all of them knew their stuff.
If you are able to find that rare dealer with twin/triple expertise and a Master tech, don’t be surprised if you don’t get the master assigned to your boat. The tech you do get will be able to get their help.
