Velvet Drive Pump-Which Way?

Against my wishes, my boat partner/mechanic sent our 71C to his auto transmission shop for rebuilding. It came back, we installed it, but it doesn't work(!) Fluid "splashes" around, but it doesn't build any pressure. Tom at Harpurs Marine in Wilmington CA said the external pump by the engine cowling may be on backward. Any help is greatly appreciated...you know how heavy those trannies are?

Most pumps are marked on the hsg. with a arrow for rotation

It would also help, what boat – year – twin or single engine –<br />Brand of engine – engine rotation – left or right hand – port or starboard engine.

Ya getting too technical elpaso. Is a frapping velvet drive. Point the arrow on the front pump in the direction the flywheel is rotating. Heavy? Shouldn't be nothing for a manly man!!!
