I have a ProLine 19' center console, that weighs 3000lbs dry... I was towing with my 2007 Suburban with a tow rating of about 7000 lbs. Once we loaded gear and 4-5 people in the 'burban it pulled OK, but always seemed like it was working very hard. Only got about 9 MPG with boat on the highway. It worked but again, always felt like it was straining.
Bought a 2017 GMC Sierra (Texas Edition) about 8 months ago, Tow capacity rated at 11,000 for this setup. It does not even know the boat is back there, even with full load of people and gear. 7 hour trip to Minnesota... 14.5 MPG!
What a difference in ride and mileage. And at the ramp, piece of cake to pull it out, even on as steep, wet, slippery and sandy surface. Never underestimate the value of 4WD! I suggest you always go with the largest most powerful vehicle you can. Doesn't have to be new, just beefy and made to tow!
