Its about time Skargo you chimed in. Where have you been. ;)

Whats this Bull about it being hard to remove.

My Non Heat gun method. Lots of sun required.

You want to apply vaseline during the day when sun is beating down on the hull. Rub it on with a cloth and let it sit in the sun for a couple hours. Just a thin coat will do it. Next take a shammy with micro fiber and wipe it down. Where gloves or it could be messy. Its best also if the Vaseline is warm to almost melted. I warmed the Jar in a pan hot water. Do not attempt to microwave.

Is this for everyone. No! There are anti vaseline folks out there.

Also my boat has been washed, waxed before doing the Vaseline treatment. I repeat the vaseline treatment once a month and only wax once a year. Be sure to always wash boat before applying vaseline.

A bonus is no water spots on the Hull.

Try for yourself. Doesn't hurt anything if you don't like it.

Forget about V .. just use some Silicone spray to Fresh your hull up ..

Works wonders ( you just have to be aware of the halo around your boat ),

Not just that . .. but even Trans fluid is GREAT for those "buffers" ..

Oh oh .. I forgot about using the secret " Penetrol " .. thats real good stuff too..

I am dead serious about this .

You want just a lookie goodie thingy .. then by all means use Penetrol .. or trans fluid in your mix. .. or Vas ..

Its just way to fill the gel pores ... shiny yes granted ..

I hope I dont have to buff out your boatss LOL ..

YD.

Ok, I let this one get a little off topic. If you want to know if Vaseline works, do a search. There is already plenty of info out there. Any more ideas on cold weather use?

I;m almost afraid to chime in because inevitably, someone who hates vaseline will come in here, and use non factual statements to bash those that use vaseline successfully. Those kinds of people have bitter, sad lives from what I can tell. ;)

The anti-Vaseline? crowd acts as if it is a stunning revelation and totally implausible that something mildly greasy could make surfaces shiny/wet looking.

This claim is just outrageous to them! Greasy surfaces appear shiny/wet? Inconceivable.

Re: Vaseline in the winter?

For the record I have nothing personally against Vaseline. It has always served me well. Keep a can or two 'round the house. Not familiar with the cocoanut scented blend but sounds interesting?

Though still not convinced I'd wanna smear it on my boat. No offense to Vaseliners. But down here at least it's most often used by less than scrupulous dealers putting lipstick on a pig. And trust me it don't hold up so well in sun & salt water. Hence my bias.

Having said that I don't see how a lil Vaseline could ever hurt a boat?

It works best on Glastron boats and in the winter. :)

Re: Vaseline in the winter?

I was actually being serious/truthful in my post.

There are "tricks" that can help some of you that just need a shine more then spending 400 bucks to get it pro polished.

Not to say how long the tricks will last .. but they do help for a quicky ..

Penetrol mixed in with some compound helps some oxidation.

Spray Silicone I have seen can make a Pink boat Red .. ( Im not responsible for your local laws regarding petro release ).

Vas .. I have never personally used .. but it seems to work well for some.

Again .. I do not use these above methods. I can tell you that they work. I can tell you that it should be considered that using these methods may harm the longevity of the gelcoat surface.

I have NO ill feelings for those of us that just want there boats to shine no matter how.

Yes Im of the opinion that you should not use the Snake Oils .. but I understand that sometimes it is very close to the only option.

So please do not get me wrong here .. Im kinda on your side when your side matters most. ( trying to help is a matter of fact ).

Peace and Luck YD.

Re: Vaseline in the winter?

In the spring after the first wash and wax...I'm going to try this on part of the boat and have a look. Thanks for the link to instructions.

If your boat is already shiny, do as you planned -- wax then Vaseline. However, if it is oxidized and chalky, use Vaseline 1st and then wax.

Agree.
Still not sure of a need to do this off season when the boat is under cover for a few months. My off season is Nov-Feb but I think I cheated myself because its in the mid to low 70's for a High.
