Well the wife and I are looking at a vacation around Sept this year, and am wondering, is there much to see around Atlanta, GA, she has a friend that lives in Charleston, SC so we figured that running around and looking at some of the Civil War areas might be a great way to spend our vacation as well as visit some friends we have not seen in many years. I have several guys I served with that live in that area, but have never been able to visit that area. I know there are quite a few members that live in that part of the country that correspond on this system. What other areas are good to visit besides the typical tourist hotspots?

:)

Re: Vacation Planning?

My wife and I LOVED Charleston. And we didn't even make it to Ft. Sumpter or the USS Yorktown. The fake trolleys are the way to see the town easily. We liked the South Carolina Aquarium a lot. There's also a minor league baseball team in town. And I believe Mike Veeck is the owner. Just a couple years ago they set a record for the fewest fans at a game! (On purpose, they didn't let anyone in until the 7th, when the attendance figure was already official).
I didn't get to spend any time there, but I haven't heard anyone complain about Savannah, GA either.

Stone Mountain GA near "Hot-lanta." Worth a 1/2 if you're in the area.
